Ira Bauer-Spector

Ira Bauer-Spector

Ira Bauer-Spector is a director, actor and educator.  He has worked in various capacities at San Diego theatres including San Diego Junior Theatre (HONK!, The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fair(l)y (stoopid) Tales, Zanna, Don’t!), American Rose Theatre (Spring Awakening, 13: The Musical), The Old Globe (Directing Intern/Assistant to Rupert Holmes, The First Wives Club: The Musical), Diversionary Theatre (Moscow, Dear Harvey, Lunch & Dessert), North Coast Repertory Theatre (Pinkalicious: The Musical), ACT-San Diego (Once Upon a Mattress, Seussical: The Musical) and San Diego State University (Into the Woods, Songs for a New World, A Class Act, Birds of Paradise).  

Other notable directing credits include: Cabaret (Kennedy Center SSD&C Directing Fellowship Finalist), bare (Assistant Director, Chicago Premiere) and The Twilight of the Golds.  Other notable acting credits include: Dear Harvey (Various Roles, Diversionary/FringeNYC, Overall Excellence Award for Outstanding Ensemble), Zanna, Don’t! (Zanna, Chicago Premiere), Angels in America (Prior Walter), The Twilight of the Golds (David Gold) and You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown (Charlie Brown).  

He is also the Founder and Artistic Director of the San Diego-based Breakthrough Workshop Theatre, and in 2013 is slated to work on various projects during the inaugural season including a handful of cabaret performances, “Breakthrough Workshops” of Dear Harvey, Proof and The Twilight of the Golds and a production of Bunked! The Musical.  Education: BFA Musical Theatre, BFA Theatre Performance (University of Colorado at Boulder);  MFA Musical Theatre, Directing Emphasis (San Diego State University).

Kim Montelibano Heil

Kim Montelibano Heil is the Education Programs Manager at The Old Globe, having also been an Artistic Associate under Jerry Patch, Jack O’Brien, and Craig Noel. Prior to working in San Diego, Kim was an associate at Arielle Tepper Productions, which produced SPAMALOT, DEMOCRACY, and A RAISIN IN THE SUN on Broadway, among others. Kim also produced Anne Garcia-Romero’s EARTHQUAKE CHICA for the Summer Play Festival in New York. She was the Associate Producer/Dramaturg for Second Generation’s In The Works Reading Series, where she produced workshops of plays by emerging Asian-American playwrights. As an actor, Kim performed with the Radio City Rockettes, East West Players, Civic Light Opera of South Bay Cities, and at Disneyland, among many other companies. Kim holds an M.A. in Performance Studies from New York University. The productions she is most proud of are her children, 7 year-old Katrina and 4 year-old Tristan.

Mitzi Michaelsmitzi michaels

Hailing from San Francisco, Mitzi Michaels received her B.F.A. in Musical Theater from the Boston Conservatory. After Graduation, Mitzi spent five years in New York City, working as a performer, teacher and casting assistant for Broadway musicals with Binder Casting.  Some of Mitzi’s favorite roles include Fanny Brice in Funny Girl, Madelaine True in Lippa’s Wild Party, and Marta in Company. Mitzi has performed as a soloist with the Boston Pops, and was an opening act for Carlos Santana.
She is very proud of writing and starring in her own one-woman show, that debuted at the Duplex in New York City.

Mitzi recently graduated with her MFA in Musical Theatre from San Diego State University, where she also taught Acting & Musical Theatre. Mitzi teaches around town at the San Diego Junior Theatre and the La Jolla Playhouse. This summer she was featured in Sweeney Todd at the Moonlight Amphitheater, under the direction of Steve Glaudini.

Cris maintains a private voice, piano, and acting studio, having taught over 12, 000 sessions, from beginner to professional.  His students have ranged from 4 years old to 71 years old (so far), and have worked on Broadway, National Tours, the top regional theatres, and academic programs (NYU-Tisch, Indiana, Boston Conservatory, CCM, AMDA, Texas) and won many awards, including placing Finalists in the National High School Music Theatre Contest (The Jimmys), three years in a row.
